About

About Frontlines.et

A neutral, open tracker of Ethiopia's armed conflicts: who controls each district, and every reported strike, battle, change of control and statement, with its sources and a confidence grade.

What it is

Frontlines.et maps Ethiopia's wars district by district. It collects reports from Ethiopian and international outlets, observers, open-source analysts and the parties' own channels; reads them in English, Amharic, Afaan Oromo and Tigrinya; grades each one; and publishes the result as a map, a feed of events and open data, updated every 15 minutes. Historical events back to 1989 come from the Uppsala Conflict Data Program.

Who runs it

Frontlines.et is an independent project, built and maintained by the developer behind moolerz.com. It is not affiliated with any government, armed group, party or media outlet, and it is not a news outlet: it aggregates, verifies and maps what others report.

Editorial policy

  • Neutral by design: every side's reports go through the same grading, and the same words describe every side.
  • Only independently confirmed reports change who controls a district. A party's own claim is published, labelled as a claim, and never moves the map.
  • Every event names its sources and links them, so readers can check the original.
  • Casualty figures are given as reported, at the low end of any range. They are not verified counts.
  • No hate: posts that dehumanise or incite are summarised and labelled, never repeated as fact.
  • AI helps read and sort reports; grading rules decide what is published, and the owner reviews the queue of unconfirmed reports.

Corrections

When a report turns out wrong, it is corrected or withdrawn and listed here with the date and what changed. Duplicate reports of the same event are merged, and their old links lead to the merged event.
